On 10 January, at 7:00 PM, the Theatre House “Jūras vārti” will be presenting the Daile Theatre performance “Games with Julie” directed by Viesturs Meikšāns. The cast includes the actors Ieva Segliņa, Lauris Dzelzītis, Anete Krasovska, and Kārlis Arnolds Avots. Costume designer – Ilze Vītoliņa, composer – Bernadett Tarr, lighting director – Māra Vaļikova.
The performance is based on the version of the play by the Russian playwright and writer Roman Dolzhanskiy, translated by Inga Rozentāle, about the popular play “Miss Julie” by the Swedish playwright August Strindberg. 19. In the late 19th century, August Strindberg shocked the European audiences with his daring to address the most basic instincts of human beings that despite the age of modernity had never disappeared. Exterior declarations of gender equality brought forward unexpected consequences – the uncontrollable drives of human nature manifested themselves as the inability to develop a true intimacy, and the dissembling return to the chains of patriarchal society was no solace either. The director Viesturs Meikšāns has sought to adapt the more than a hundred-year-old content to the present times and to identify contemporary connecting points, foreshadowing the relationship between a victim and abuser, which allows for a critical evaluation of the possibilities of manipulating the human instincts with modern communication technology.
The performance to be presented at the Theatre House “Jūras vārti” is financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Ventspils State City Municipality and organised by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija”.
The tickets to the Daile Theatre performance “Games with Julie” are available in the ticket sales network “Biļešu Paradīze”.
