In July, Ventspils Science Center VIZIUM will offer workshops where you can gain positive energy while learning about various forms of energy and their applications in everyday life. Participants will explore wind and solar energy, the principles of rockets, automobiles, trains, and aircraft, as well as energy storage and discharge. Additionally, the “Little Researchers” school for preschool children continues!

Creative workshops are held daily at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, with new content offered every week:

July 1-7

  • 1:00 PM “Initial Energy”: Participants will start the month with a burst of energy by creating their own catapults, aiming for targets, and competing for the most powerful catapult!
  • 3:00 PM “Energy Converter”: This workshop will explore wind turbines, devices that convert wind into electrical energy. Participants will investigate how the shape and size of the blades affect the energy produced.

July 8-14

  • 1:00 PM “Energy Usage”: Participants will learn about the history of automobiles, how the first cars worked, and how they operate now, and will creatively build their own miniature cars.
  • 3:00 PM “Energy Extraction”: Various experiments will determine which metal is most reactive and which fruit or vegetable has the highest electrical voltage. Participants will also create their own light bulbs.

July 15-21

  • 1:00 PM “Energy Projectile”: This workshop will cover the history and principles of rockets, including Newton’s laws, and participants will create their own rockets.
  • 3:00 PM “Energy Transfer”: Participants will build a Rube Goldberg machine, a device that performs simple tasks in complex ways through sequential actions, creating an interesting track.

July 22-28

  • 1:00 PM “Energy Storage”: Participants will learn how solar energy can be used to generate electricity and measure the efficiency of solar panels on model houses.
  • 3:00 PM “Energy Discharge”: This workshop will cover static electricity, its causes, and experiments where participants will create fun hairstyles and observe static electricity in action.

July 29 – August 4

  • 1:00 PM “Energy on the Move”: Participants will explore different types of trains, build a railway track, and use Intelino J-1 smart trains for a summer journey.
  • 3:00 PM “Energy in the Air”: Participants will discuss different types of aircraft, learn about their principles of operation, and create flying objects.

The science center also offers the science show “There’s Chemistry Between Us,” where you can experience the first spark of a meeting, the wonders of a chemical date, and an evening of stargazing. The science show “Once Upon a Summer” continues, explaining the laws of physics in an interesting and understandable way.

Science shows are held daily:

Monday – Sunday

  • 12:00 PM “There’s Chemistry Between Us”
  • 2:00 PM “Once Upon a Summer”
  • 4:00 PM “There’s Chemistry Between Us”

During the summer, preschool children can attend the “Little Researchers’ School” at VIZIUM Science Center, which takes place every weekday. The young researchers can engage in creative activities and exciting experiments to explore the world of STEM in an interesting way, along with playing in the Little Researchers’ Gallery with the friendly VIZIUM instructors.

Classes for preschool children are held on weekdays from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays: “Little Chemists’ School”
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays: “Little STEM School”

To ensure a spot in the class, we encourage prior registration at www.adre.se/pieteiktiespetnieki. However, classes can also be attended without prior registration if there are available spots on the day. The registration form must be filled out separately for each class. The fee for one class is €5.69.

Tickets for creative workshops, the exhibition hall, and science shows can be purchased on the website www.vizium.lv and at the VIZIUM Science Center ticket office. More information is available by phone: 66776633, email: [email protected], VIZIUM social media (@viziumventspils), and the website www.vizium.lv.
