In the final month of summer, at the creative workshops of the Ventspils Science Centre VIZIUM, everyone interested will have the opportunity to embark on a journey around the world. Through creative activities, participants will learn about world travellers, impressive bridges, and towers, explore dinosaurs and planets, and examine the impact of weather and water on the surrounding world. In August, the centre also offers a new science show “The Mysterious Planet”.

In August, creative workshops are held every day at 13:00 and 15:00.  A new workshop content is offered every week:

  • 5– 11 August:
    • 13:00, “Around the World by Bicycle”

There are many ways to travel around the world, but did you know that it’s also possible to do it by bicycle? Some adventurers have proven it. In this creative workshop, participants will learn about world travellers and build Lego Spike bicycles.

  • 15:00, “Bridges Around the World”

They say that when you cross a bridge for the first time, you should make a wish, and it will come true. Be it the world’s highest bridge, the Millau Viaduct in France, the cable-stayed Vanšu Bridge in Riga, or a bridge made by hand in the VIZIUM creative workshop.

  • 12– 18 August:

13:00, “Animals of the Ancient World”

Why are there no dinosaurs alive today? In this creative workshop, participants will explore these mysterious and fascinating creatures and stimulate interest in science and historical events from ancient times, using technology and robots.

  • 15:00, “Towers Around the World”

In this workshop, the participants will participate in a creative process to study and understand how towers have evolved over time and their role in the modern world. They will discover how the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa, were built and will also construct their own towers.

  • 19– 25 August:
    • 13:00, “Weather”

Participants will learn more about weather and climate differences in various parts of the world, understand how weather patterns form, and why they are important to our world, as well as engage in creative experiments.

  • 15:00, “Planets”

There is no place like home, but there are other planets surrounding our world. In this creative workshop, participants will explore the properties and locations of planets in the Solar System and engage in hands-on activities and educational tasks.

  • 26 August – 1 September:
    • 13:00, “Advocating for Clean Water”

Water purity and quality vary depending on the country. In this workshop, participants will explore the properties of water, methods and technologies for water purification, and how water filtration works. The practical part of the workshop will involve the examination of natural samples under a microscope and crafting of water filters.

  • 15:00, “World Traveller’s Map”

A map is useful for determining your location and planning various routes to reach specific destinations. It is a graphical representation of the Earth that helps with orientation in the surrounding environment. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to express their creativity by completing various tasks and creating their own maps.

From August, the science centre introduces a new science show, “The Mysterious Planet”, where participants will discover what this planet is, who lives on it, and what it looks like. The show combines scientific precision with imaginative fantasy. Surprising experiments will inspire and help rediscover the wonderful world around us. The science show “There Is Chemistry Between Us” continues, offering experiences of the first click of a meeting, the wonders of a chemical date, and a shower of evening stars.

Science shows are held every day:

  • Monday to Sunday:
    • 12:00, “There Is Chemistry Between Us”.
    • 14:00, “The Mysterious Planet”.
    • 16:00, “There Is Chemistry Between Us”.

During the summer, preschool children have the opportunity to visit the “School of Young Explorers” organised by the Science Centre VIZIUM, offering activities every weekday. The young explorers can engage in creative activities, conduct exciting experiments, discover the STEM-world in an interesting way, and have fun in the Gallery of Young Explorers together with the friendly VIZIUM instructors.

Activities for preschool children take place on weekdays from 10:15 to 11:15:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: “STEM School of Young Explorers”.
  • Tuesday and Thursday:  “School of Young Explorers-Chemists”.

To ensure a spot in the class, make sure to register in advance at www.adre.se/pieteiktiespetnieki. However, you can also attend the class without prior registration if there are available spots in the group on the day of the session. The registration form must be completed for each class separately. Participation fee: EUR 5.69.

Tickets to the creative workshops, visit to the exposition hall, and the science shows are available at www.vizium.lv and the ticket office of the Science Centre VIZIUM. More information is available by phone calling 66776633 and by e-mail: [email protected], on social networks of VIZIUM (@viziumventspils), and also on its website www.vizium.lv.
