At the concert in Ventspils, Vestards Šimkus will play the piano music of Ferenc Liszt, Pēteras Vaskas and his own compositions, Dāvids Kļaviņas upright piano, M470i, and “Steinway” concert grand piano will sound.
Vestards Šimkus is a laureate of several international competitions. The pianist has attracted international attention by collaborating with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Birmingham Symphony and the French National Orchestra, the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra, the chamber orchestra “Kremerata Baltica”, etc. Pianist Vestard Šimkus has been called “phenomenal” (conductor Paavo Jervi), “inspiring” (BBC), “pianist of the highest caliber” (American Record Guide), as well as “one of the best pianists of the new generation” (Piano News).
He has performed at prestigious venues such as the Vienna and Berlin “Konzerthaus,” Tokyo Opera, the Olivier Messiaen Hall at Radio France, the Berwald Hall in Stockholm, Prague’s “Rudolfinum,” Barcelona’s “Palau de Música,” Shanghai’s “Oriental Art Center ,” and Amsterdam’s “Concertgebouw.”
Vestard Šimkus is an officer of the Order of the Three Stars, received the Polish Gold Order, is a knight of the Estonian “White Star” order, as well as the winner of the Great Music Award and the Latvian Music Recording of the Year Award. Šimkus is also the author of piano concertos, film music, chamber works and piano pieces.
The concert is organized by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” with the financial support of the municipality of Ventspils and the State Cultural Capital Fund.
