When traveling in Latvia and Estonia, we invite you to visit places of military heritage, which show the time from the beginning of the First World War in 1914 and the independence of both countries in 1918 until its restoration in 1990/1991. year. These are museums, fortresses, military equipment, trails, bunkers, battle sites, military cities, infrastructure, memorials.
150 military heritage sites in both countries are marked on the map, with a name and brief description, address and telephone number. For several places that can be seen in nature, such as battle and memorial sites, former military structures, the address and telephone number do not exist, so it is not listed. All locations have GPS coordinates. All of them present developments in one or more stages of history:
- First World War/ Wars of Independence 1914 – 1920
- The Second World War 1939 – 1945
- Movement of national partisans – forest brothers 1944 – ~1957.
- Soviet occupation and restoration of independence 1945 – 1991
The stages of history are briefly described in the brochure, it also contains information about battle reconstruction events, military parades and holidays dedicated to the independence of the countries in Latvia and Estonia.
