Ventspils is a cycling-friendly and accessible city for cyclers!
The construction of cycling paths has promoted the development of cycling tourism, supplemented and improved the city’s infrastructure, enhanced the safe cycling, improved the accessibility of the city’s attractions, thus adding value for city’s tourism offer and the environment in general.
The availability of cycling paths allows Ventspils to be successfully integrated into the EuroVelo network (10 ‘Baltic sea cycle route’; 13 ‘Iron curtain trail’) as well as contributes to internal population mobility.
The construction of cycling paths began in 2010 when 10.17 km long cycling paths were built within a Bicycle Tourism Development Project, thus connecting the international ferry terminal with the most popular tourist attractions across the city: Old Town, Ostas Street promenade, Southern Breakwater, Seaside & Adventure Park. The cycling path network has expanded gradually, with the street reconstruction project providing for construction of additional bicycle paths to link them up with the existing ones.
