After a two-year break, the traditional Belarusian Culture Days “From Līgo to Kupala” will take place again in Ventspils. They will take place on 8 and 9 July at the Children’s Town, the Old Town Market Square and the stage of Park “Fantāzija”.
The Belarusian Culture Days are organised by the Belarusian Association “Spadchina” with the support of the Ventspils State City Municipality. The motto of the celebration: Diversity of cultures and traditions – our common riches. Creative guests and amateur groups from Riga, Daugavpils and Liepaja will help the local Belarusian community to realise the event.
The opening concert is scheduled for Saturday, 8 July at 16.00 in the Children’s Town. At 20.00, the magical rituals of Kupala, which have much in common with Latvian Līgo and Summer Solstice traditions, will take place in the Old Town Market Square. On Sunday at 11.00 a concert by visiting groups will take place in the Children’s Town, and at 15.00 the closing concert of the Belarusian Culture Days “Friends Meet in Ventspils” will take place in the Children’s Park “Fantasy” in Pārventa.
The events will be attended by the Belarusian song ensemble “Žuravinka” from the Ventspils Culture Centre, as well as guest artists from the Belarusian Culture Centre of the Daugavpils State City Municipality: the Belarusian folk song ensemble “Kupaļinka”, the dance ensemble “Ļanok”, members of the amateur theatre studio “Pauļinka” and professional vocal soloist and pedagogue Anastasija Lukašenoka, the Liepāja Belarusian Society groups “Pauļinka” and “Māra”, as well as the Riga Belarusian senior song ensemble “Vitoki” will also be guests.
The project “From Līgo to Kupala” has been taking place in Ventspils since 2005. This year the project is also supported by AS “Ventspils Grain Termināls”.
