Among the theatre performances and concerts in May, the 15th birthday concert of the theatre house “Jūras vārti” promises to become the most ambitious event of cultural life in Ventspils.
May will start with the romantic comedy “Rhubarb Wine”, depicting Latvian-style games between two neighbors. It will be staged at the Jūras vārti Theatre House on Wednesday, May 1st, at 16:00, with roles played by Gundars Silakaktiņš, Zane Daudziņa, Kristīne Nevarauska, Ģirts Ķesteris, and Lauris Subatnieks.
On Saturday, May 4th, at 16:00, a concert celebrating the Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia will take place at the concert hall “Latvija”. Soloists Gunta Gelgote (soprano), Rinalds Kandalincevs (baritone), Zane Volberga (piano), Gidons Grīnbergs (violin), the Ventspils Chamber Orchestra, and the Ventspils Mixed Choir will perform works by Latvian composers. The conductor and artistic director of the concert is Aigars Meri, and the event will be hosted by musicologist Liene Jakovļeva. Free entrance tickets are available at the “Latvija” concert hall box office. The number of tickets is limited.
On Thursday, May 9th, at 19:00, the Riga New Theatre invites you to the performance “Felix, Anatolijs, and Ilona”. The production is directed by Aiks Karapetjans, and the cast includes Vilis Daudziņs, Baiba Broka, Andris Keišs, Kaspars Znotiņš, Jevgēnijs Isajevs, Marija Linarte, and Sabīne Tīkmane. All tickets are sold out!
The audience is invited to the next concert of the series “Organ Music on Sunday” on May 12th at 13:00. The concert “Gaviles” will bring together on one stage two versatile personalities, who are connected by both classical music values and the creative process of creating and perfecting improvisations – organist Renāte Stivriņa and saxophonist Artis Gāga.
The most ambitious event of the month will take place on Wednesday, May 15th, at 19:00 when the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Theatre House “Jūras vārti” will be celebrated with a grand concert. It will be a reunion with many well-loved musicians and actors. The grand show will feature Intars Busulis, Dita Lūriņa, Raimonds Celms, Marija Naumova, Normunds Rutulis, “Citi zēni”, Karīna Tatarinova, Veronika Plotņikova, and more!
Until May 17th, the exhibition spaces of the theatre house “Jūras vārti” will host Arnis Martinelli’s paintings in the exhibition “Balletomania” and actor Vilis Daudziņš drawings in the exhibition “Teātris bildēs”. From May 23rd, a joint exhibition of Ventspils artists and an exhibition of the photography club “Kaktuss” will be on show.
