Ance Krauze and Zigfrīds Muktupāvels in the Concert Program “VIOLETS”
Austra Skujiņa’s poetry set to music by Jānis Lūsēns.
On September 21, 2023, at the Daile Music House, soloists Ance Krauze and Zigfrīds Muktupāvels will premiere Jānis Lūsēns’ program featuring the poetry of Austra Skujiņa titled “VIOLETS.”
In the program “Violets,” various songs composed by Jānis Lūsēns over different periods will be performed, reflecting the myriad nuances of Austra Skujiņa’s poetry—ranging from a quiet celebration of love to vibrant bravado, attempts to break free from the mundane, and even resigned acceptance. Zigfrīds Muktupāvels’ violin playing and voice, along with a jazz trio under the direction of Jānis Lūsēns, will enhance the expressiveness of each piece.
The first encounter between composer Jānis Lūsēns and the then-young singer Ance Krauze took place in 1999 when the rock opera “Kaupēn, mans mīļais” was staged at the Liepāja Theatre. This production involved many young and talented artists from Liepāja, among the most notable being Mārtiņš Freimanis and Ance Krauze. Ance stood out for her deep, powerful voice and the temperament of the Suiti. This led to her first collaboration with Raimonds Pauls, while Jānis Lūsēns wrote a new musical, “The Ugly Duckling,” in which Ance was given the lead role.
Collaboration with composer Jānis Lūsēns, as well as artists Ance Krauze and Zigfrīds Muktupāvels, has developed through various concert programs at the Daile Music House over the past 15 years. Several years ago, Jānis Lūsēns created Christmas songs for Zigfrīds Muktupāvels and Ance Krauze, and this year the two artists will reunite for the poetry program “Violets,” with the composer at the piano.
The concert program will be performed by:
Ance Krauze and Zigfrīds Muktupāvels, with Jānis Lūsēns on the piano.
Featuring musicians Jānis Lūsēns Jr. (bass guitar) and Harijs Gūtmanis (percussion).
