The grand musical show “Dziesmu duelis” celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and this milestone will be marked with a nationwide tour across Latvia, bringing together a large audience! The most melodic duel teams will feature Olga Rajecka and Elita Patmalniece on one side, while musician Atis Ieviņš and Ufo will represent the other. The show’s core cast remains unchanged: television and radio host, as well as event emcee Baiba Sipeniece-Gavare, composer Uldis Marhilēvičs, musician Normunds Jakušonoks, and the accompanying band. This summer also marks a special occasion for Elita Patmalniece, as she celebrates her birthday, which will be festively acknowledged during the duel show!
Baiba has special memories about the show’s beginnings: “At the time when auditions were being held for the host of this show, I happened to be at the Film Studio where it was all taking place. Before me, model-type girls were trying out for the role, but I walked up to Viesturs Dūle and jokingly said to him: ‘Why are you torturing those girls? This is my show, I can already see it!’ I don’t usually do things like that because I believe a host should be chosen through a fair competition. I know I don’t have many talents, but I do have one – I remember the lyrics to songs, so I told Viesturs: ‘I fit here like no one else! Please, take me!’ And he replied: ‘Alright!’”
