On a beautiful summer evening, pianists Jean-Baptiste Doulcet (France) and Aurēlija Šimkus will perform on the world’s largest vertical piano, created by Dāvids Kļaviņš for the “Latvija” concert hall. In a relaxed atmosphere, we will enjoy refined interplay, wonderful music, and surprising improvisation. This will be a program specially crafted by the two talented pianists for the “Latvija” concert hall’s 470i piano, which is unique for its sound character, dynamics, clarity, and sound sustainability. Aurēlija Šimkus will perform Pēteris Vasks’ “Music for a Summer Evening,” Franz Liszt’s Second Ballade for piano, and Igor Stravinsky’s Three Movements from the ballet “The Firebird” transcribed for piano by Guido Agosti. Pianist Jean-Baptiste Doulcet will offer masterful improvisations inspired by this music, creating a new and unique experience for the audience. The pride of the “Latvija” concert hall, the “Kļaviņš M470i,” is the world’s largest vertical piano. The exclusivity of the piano is due to its resonator and string length, enclosed in a metal frame. The total height of the piano is 4.70 meters, and the longest string is 3.90 meters. The vertical arrangement of the strings gives the piano a very timbral, deep, and rich sound. The piano features a full 88-key keyboard.
