During the Ventspils City Festival, the traditional Book Festival “Read. Think. Create. Celebrate” will take place.

On Saturday, August 3rd, from 12:00 to 15:00, the Book Festival, organized by the Ventspils Library and “Europe Direct Ventspils,” will be held in the Town Hall Square. The festival will be hosted by Emil and Ieva Ķiģeļi, the main characters of the TV program “Mēs ar brāli kolosāli.” Various publishers will attend the festival as usual. Attendees can explore European flavors with culinary blogger Piparu, the Ventspils Ukrainian community, the Ventspils German Society, and other cooking enthusiasts. A photo exhibition titled “Travels Across European Countries” will showcase the most beautiful places in different countries. Everyone interested can participate in creating the festival story “Latvia – EU.” As usual, “Europe Direct Ventspils” will provide information on EU topics, quizzes, and other activities.
Children will have access to various creative workshops organized by library staff. They can learn to make dream catchers from natural materials, try their hand at Braille code, and test their memory in the “Safe Internet” game. Kids can also create a fun toy – a joy spinner – from paper and bamboo sticks and make a gnome figure inspired by Laimdotas Sēles’ book “Ventspils Dwarfs and Their Friends.” Additionally, children can test their knowledge of the European Union by playing games like “Find the Flag” and “Identify It.” They can also learn to make hats and plates from maple leaves and play large-scale games.
During the festival, the book “The Ventspils Alphabet” will be ceremoniously launched. This book features stories about the city, its most beautiful and interesting places, and observations from young Ventspils residents – kindergarten children and students. The book is published by the Ventspils Education Board. As every year, the festival will also honor local authors who have published books in the past year.
This year, cultural journalist Liega Piešiņa will host conversations with two special guests: author Laura Vinogradova, who has written several books for children and adults, and blogger, traveler, and author Zane Eniņa, who has visited over 80 countries and describes her adventures on the blog mugursoma.lv and in several books. Ventspils pop studio “Jūras akmentiņi” will provide a musical greeting for the Book Festival.
