On 25 March At 18:00, everyone is invited to a communal remembrance event at the Bridge Garden to honor the victims of the communist genocide.
The remembrance event will also be joined by representatives from the Ventspils County Association of Politically Repressed Persons, the 46th Infantry Battalion of the National Guard, the Border Guard, the Ventspils City Municipality Council, and the Cultural Center. The brass band “Ventspils” will perform.
The Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Communist Genocide is dedicated to the mass deportation of Latvian residents that took place on March 25, 1949. More than 10,000 families were suddenly torn from their homes in the early hours of that March morning, never to see their homeland again, according to the plans of the deportation organizers. Around 2,000 residents were deported from Ventspils and the Ventspils district.
