On February 13, the renowned cellist Camille Thomas and pianist Georgijs Osokins will perform at the “Latvija” concert hall. This will mark the first meeting of these two musicians as they debut a brand-new program in Ventspils.
Pianist Georgijs Osokins, renowned for his brilliant artistry and musical sensitivity, crafts his programs around timeless themes imbued with romantic longing. These ideas resonate deeply with his newly discovered creative partner, the French cellist and Deutsche Grammophon artist Camille Thomas. In their first joint program, the duo revisits some of the most exquisite masterpieces of classical music, all permeated with the spirit of Romanticism, defying the conventions of their respective eras.
The program features Robert Schumann’s rich and imaginative fantasy scenes, alongside the Norwegian folk-inspired hues of Edvard Grieg and the melancholic refuge of Alfred Schnittke’s Musica Nostalgica. Johann Sebastian Bach’s introspective viola da gamba sonatas find harmony with the endlessly flowing melodies of Sergei Rachmaninoff. Additionally, Trois pièces, composed by the legendary French pedagogue Nadia Boulanger, stand as a testament to her remarkable talent as a composer.
Camille Thomas is a modern classical music virtuoso known for her captivating stage charisma, vitality, and ability to inspire audiences worldwide. Born in Paris, Camille began learning the cello at the age of four. She honed her craft under the guidance of esteemed music pedagogues in Berlin and Weimar, quickly rising to prominence on the global music stage.
Every performance by Camille Thomas is not only a unique musical experience but also a soulful encounter, inspiring audiences to open their hearts to the wonder and emotions of classical music. Camille believes that music has a unique power to expand human hearts and enable a more profound and intense experience of the world.
She performs on the legendary “Feuermann” Stradivari cello (1730), loaned by the Nippon Music Foundation. “Music gives hope and reveals the beauty and grandeur of the human soul,” says Camille Thomas.
