On December 6 at 7:00 PM, the concert hall “Latvia” will host a performance by piano virtuoso Vestards Šimkus.

Pianist Vestards Šimkus has been described as “phenomenal” (conductor Paavo Järvi), “inspiring” (BBC), “a pianist of the highest caliber” (American Record Guide), and “one of the outstanding young pianists of his generation” (Piano News).

Šimkus is a laureate of several international competitions. He gained international attention through collaborations with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the French National Orchestra, the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Kremerata Baltica, among others.

He has performed at prestigious venues such as the Vienna and Berlin “Konzerthaus,” Tokyo Opera, the Olivier Messiaen Hall at Radio France, the Berwald Hall in Stockholm, Prague’s “Rudolfinum,” Barcelona’s “Palau de Música,” Shanghai’s “Oriental Art Centre,” and Amsterdam’s “Concertgebouw.”

Vestards Šimkus is a recipient of the Order of the Three Stars, has been awarded the Golden Order of Poland, is a knight of the Order of the White Star of Estonia, and has received both the Grand Music Award and the Latvian Music Recording Award. Šimkus is also a composer of piano concertos, film music, chamber works, and piano compositions.

In the concert in Ventspils, Vestards Šimkus will perform works by Franz Liszt, Pēteris Vasks, and his own compositions.
