The goal of the “Festival of songs and Popular Melodies by Guntis Skrastiņš” is to popularize well-loved Latvian songs and melodies from various genres. Particularly those that were important in the life of actor, singer, musical event host, and TV show presenter Guntis Skrastiņš, thus honoring his memory. This year, Guntis would have celebrated his 70th birthday.
Ventspils is the place where songs have always been sung, where Guntis Skrastiņš participated in public events of various genres. He was always close to popular melodies and well-loved songs, singing, hosting, and popularizing this beloved music genre among audiences, both in Reņķa Garden and elsewhere in Ventspils.
This year as well, the festival participants will be popular Latvian pop music, schlager music, country music, as well as actor’s songs and ditties performers – soloists, actors, and bands – Māris Sloka (grupa “Klaidonis”), “Bumerangs”, duets “Strazdiņš un Račs”, Andris Bērziņš, “Roja”, Viktors Lapčenoks, Artis Robežnieks, Kaspars Antess, Žoržs Siksna, Kaspars Markševics, Ieva Sutugova, Ineta Rudzīte, Dainis Skutelis, “Tērvete”, Edgars Pujāts, “Mākoņstūmēji”, Andris Daņiļenko, Roberts Ošiņš un citi mākslinieki.
The soloists and singing actors will be musically accompanied by Gunta Skrastiņa grupa “No Pusvārda”un dziedošo dāmu trio “Oranžās”.
As is traditional, the festival will be hosted by actor Gundars Āboliņš.
As usual, the festival will continue with a ball until 3:00 a.m., featuring Guntis Skrastiņš’s band “No Pusvārda” and popular Latvian soloists.
