On November 30, the City’s main Christmas tree lighting festival will take place in the Great Square. This year, Ventspils’ creative collectives have prepared special programs, increasing the joy of lighting the city’s decorations with concerts starting at 2:00 p.m., while the first chords for the city’s main Christmas tree lighting ceremony will sound at 5:00 p.m. A holiday market will be open throughout the day.
In the festively decorated Great Square, the German Cultural Society ensemble “Windau”, Anna Gegere, the Latvian folklore group “Laipa” of the Culture Center, the Contemporary Dance Studio “Skorpions” of the House of Creativity – leader Inga Spodiņuka, the Culture Center dance group “Mini Lāsītes” and “Lāsītes”, the Merry Christmas Santas and the women’s choir “Lība” – leader Margita Kronberga, Estere Busule, Ventspils Blumīzeristi, Mazà prinča planētas and Cita planēta, the Ventspils Baptist Church choir – leader Rudīte Tālberga, Justīne Grīnvalde, Renāte Treimane, Rūta Pāvulēna and Lelde Manteja, the Ventspils Music Secondary School music studio and preparatory class – leader Elīna Lūse. Before 5:00 p.m. in the Great Square, everyone will be cheered up with fun winter dances by Dj Ufo (Kaspars Upaciers). The city’s main Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be opened by the pop group “Jūras akmentiņi”, followed by the Liepāja Puppet Theatre’s performance “Elfiņa’s First Christmas”. Children from Ventspils preschool educational institutions will have decorated decorative balls in advance, which will be ceremonially installed on the large Christmas tree. In a dazzling display of lights, holiday trees and thousands of other decorations throughout the city will be lit. Afterwards, everyone will be invited to participate in the program “Songs, Dances and Games” with Ufo.
