On the day of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia – 18 November at 21.00, Ventspils Culture Centre invites you to a festive ball. The most famous country music band in Latvia “Sestā jūdze” will play at this special occasion. During the breaks, Ventspils’ most numerous creative collective, the mixed choir “Līvzeme”, will perform.
The band “Sestā jūdze” was founded in 2001. Since the location of the group at the time of its foundation was Bilska, which is 6 miles from Smiltene, where (as a song goes) country music originated in Latvia, the name of the group “Sestā Jūdze” was born in honour of this distance. The musicians have performed at country music festivals and other events in Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, England, Ireland and Denmark, including the Silkeborg Country Music Festival, one of the most important country music events in Europe. Since its foundation, the group has repeatedly won the Grand Prix for best band at the Bauska International Country Music Festival, and has also received awards for best song and best performer. “Sestā jūdze” has also won the Latvian Music Recording of the Year Award three times.
The ball will take place in the Ventspils Culture Centre’s Great Hall. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and drinks.
