The National Armed Forces Headquarters Orchestra invites you to the concert program “LATin,” which will take place in Ventspils on March 26 at 19:00 at the Ventspils Concert Hall “Latvija.” The “LATin” concert program is dedicated to spring, the time of nature’s awakening, and it invites the audience to experience various musical rhythms along with the orchestra and conductors Major Andis Karelis and Captain Aleksandrs Kreišmanis.

The selected repertoire includes world-famous music by foreign composers that is rarely heard in Latvia, as well as works by Latvian composers. The music composers featured in the concert program include Morton Gould, Guido Rennert, Astor Piazzolla, Raimonds Pauls, and others. A poignant highlight of the concert will be a soprano saxophone solo by Sergeant Vasilijs Šušerts. The audience will also be delighted by the performance of the beloved soloist Sergeant Gatis Supe (vocals) and the clarinet quartet “Quattro Differente.”

“As spring begins, we receive more and more sunlight. We want to spend more time outdoors, feeling a kind of awakening from the ‘winter sleep,’ energy, and movement helps us a lot in all of this. For this concert program, we have searched for music from warmer countries, drawing parallels with our beloved Latvia. We have chosen pieces based on sharp, syncopated rhythms, as well as fast tempos. We hope that the orchestra’s performance and the rapid movement of the music will captivate the listeners, entice them to the dance floor, and create an uplifting mood,” says Captain Aleksandrs Kreišmanis, conductor of the National Armed Forces Headquarters Orchestra.

The National Armed Forces Headquarters Orchestra was founded on February 3, 1992. The orchestra is most commonly associated with significant national holidays and events. The orchestra’s activities combine several functions – ceremonies, parades, drill program demonstrations, as well as orchestra and chamber ensemble concerts. During its existence, the National Armed Forces Headquarters Orchestra has participated in many international and globally renowned military music festivals and collaborated with well-known conductors, soloists, and chamber ensembles. The orchestra has successfully performed at the Virginia International Tattoo in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, as well as at the International NATO Alliance Member States’ Orchestra Tattoo Festival “Military Tattoo Lithuania 2023” in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The concerts are organized in collaboration with the Valmiera Cultural Center, Līvāni Cultural Center, Ventspils Concert Hall “Latvija,” and the Riga Latvian Society House.

Continuing the traditions of the National Armed Forces Orchestras, admission to the concerts is free of charge.
