On Saturday, 1 April, at 11:00, everyone is invited to the Snowdrop Planting Event in the Seaside Park behind the pond Ūdensrožu dīķis to welcome spring and plant a snowdrop. Participants can bring their own seedlings or obtain them at the planting site, as informed by the Ventspils Municipal Administration.
Collective planting of snowdrops has become a beloved tradition in Ventspils, with the most diligent locals gathering every year to make the city greener and more colourful with the arrival of spring. . This year, on 1 April, the Snowdrop Planting Event will take place for the 9th year in a row, during which around 5000 snowdrop plants are planted every year. The most diligent participants will be treated to tea and pastries during the event, and all the necessary tools such as gloves and shovels will be available on site.
In previous years, the most diligent locals have planted snowdrops on the square Dzirnavu laukums and park Reņķa dārzs, but in 2017, a Guinness World Record was set at Sarkanmuiža meadow, where 1293 participants managed to plant 7756 bulb flowers in 6 minutes, 28 seconds, and 44 hundredths of a second.
In April, various environmentally friendly events will be held in Ventspils. For a more melodious spring, on 9 April at 11:00, everyone is invited to the Children’s Town, and at 15:00 to the Children’s Park Fantāzija to make birdhouses for our feathered friends together. Meanwhile, on 22 April, everyone is invited to participate in the parks Reņķa dārzs and Tilta dārzs, where 47 new and even exotic tree species such as witch hazel, currants, and Amur maackia will be planted.
