Theatre productions and a legendary opera, Latin American temperament, jazz, classical music performed by a symphony orchestra, and choir music. All of this can be enjoyed at events organised by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” at the Theatre House “Jūras vārti” and the Concert Hall “Latvija”.
On 1 November at 19:00, the Concert Hall “Latvija” will be welcoming the Cuban cellist and singer Ana Carla Mazawho combines jazz, classical music, and the vibrant sounds of Latin America. Ana Carla Maza, who recently released her album “Caribe” in October, is touring in many European concert halls and clubs, and her concert in Ventspils will be her first performance in Latvia after a long hiatus.
On 9 November at 19:00, at the Theatre House “Jūras vārti”, the Valmiera Drama Theatre will be presenting the production “I Am Not a Pianist” directed by Varis Brasla and written by Alvis Lapiņš. It is a story about the conflict between the creator of the symphonic piece “Melanholiskais valsis” (The Melancholic Waltz), Emīls Dārziņš, and the conductor and vocal tutor Pāvuls Jurjāns. They were good colleagues and like-minded individuals, dreaming of establishing a Latvian opera, but unexpectedly became irreconcilable rivals. What was behind the conflict?
On the following day, 10. novembrī plkst. 19.00 – koncertzālē “Latvija” tiks vērienīgi svinēta Ventspilī dzimušā komponista Imanta Ramiņa 80. dzimšanas diena. on 10 November at 19:00, the Concert Hall “Latvija” will be celebrating the 80th birthday of the composer Imants Ramiņš who was born in Ventspils. In the concert, the compositions of Imants Ramiņš will be performed by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and the State Academic Choir “Latvija” under the direction of conductor Māris Sirmais. A special highlight of the event will be the Latvian premiere of Imants Ramiņš’ violin concerto with orchestra.
All theatre enthusiasts are invited to the Theatre House “Jūras vārti” on 12 November at 16:00 to enjoy the theatre performance “The Dog’s House” presented by the Latvian National Theatre. . A story about three brothers who have lost their connection with each other. What still binds them is their father’s house, the old dog Kubiks, and… Her… The only one who can reconcile them. Or make them eternal enemies by revealing all secrets from the past…
On 18 November at 16:00, the Concert Hall “Latvija” will be holding a concert in celebration of the 105th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, featuring the Ventspils Chamber Orchestra, mixed choirs “Ventspils” and “Līvzeme”, the Ventspils Big Band, the vocal quartet “Neaizmirstulītes”, Gunta Gelgote (soprano), Zane Volberga (piano), and Aigars Reinis (organ). The artistic director and conductor of the concert will be Aigars Meri, and it will be led by musicologist Liene Jakovļeva. At the beginning of the concert, the audience will be greeted in the celebration by Jānis Vītoliņš, the Head of the Ventspils State City Council. Free admission tickets will be available from 7 November at 12:00 at the box office of the Concert Hall.
On 24 November at 19:00, the fourth concert “How Nice!” as part of the concert series “Jam with the Ventspils Big Band” will be held in the Small Hall of the Concert Hall “Latvija”, which will feature original compositions of the musician Andris Buiķis. In the concert, alongside the author and the Ventspils Big Band (artistic director – Renārs Lācis), the energetic and versatile singer Aija Vītoliņa will also perform.
The Latvian National Opera and Ballet invites you to the production of the legendary opera “Nabucco” on 25 November at 17:00 at the Theatre House “Jūras vārti”. The opera “Nabucco” was the work that once initiated the era of fame for the composer Giuseppe Verdi. It has seen countless productions over the years, and now you have the opportunity to see it in the direction of Gunta Gailītis.
On 29 November at 19:00, the Daile Theatre will visit Ventspils, presenting the performance “Retreat” (sold out). Five friends and a beauty specialist they met the night before come together in an abandoned mansion to celebrate New Year together. It has been a while since they last saw each other, and now they are trying to look successful, even though life has thrown its challenges at each of them.
On 2 November at 16:00, two exhibitions will be opened in the exhibition halls of the Theatre House “Jūras vārti” – the art exhibition “The Air Castle” by Laimdota Junkara and “The Power of Ideas” by the graduates of the Ventspils School of Art which will be open to visitors by 6 December.
