On Sunday, 4 December, at 4:00 PM, Pārventa Library at Tārgales iela 4 , will be holding the event “A Stop for Travellers” as part of the event series “A Stop in Pārventa”, during which the visitors will have the opportunity to meet the author of the diary, Laine Pērse.
Laine Pērse has written several travel diaries and published books such as “Hitchhiking Around the World. The Wonders of Asia” (original title: “Ar stopiem apkārt pasaulei. Āzijas brīnumi”), “Hitchhiking Around the World. The Ardent South America” (original title: “Ar stopiem apkārt pasaulei. Ugunīgā Dienvidamerika”), “The Unusual Europe and a Little of Africa” (original title: “Neparastā Eiropa un kripatiņa Āfrikas”), and “Spin the World! Upside Down” (original title: “Iegriez Pasauli! Un zemi kājām gaisā”).
According to Laine, the idea of books about travelling came to her naturally: “Many people simply wanted to know where we were and how we were doing, so I started writing a diary, until one great traveller Pēteris Strubergs suggested me to make a book out of it. All my adventures did not, however, fit in one book, so I wrote six of them, and the seventh is on the way!”
Laine Pērse travels together with her husband Arturs Driņins, and they have been married for five years now. “We have been leaving our footprints in the entire world since we both met, first hitchhiking through Latvia and then travelling within various projects in Europe, until we came up with the idea to go to the USA, Australia, China, and Morocco, and Archy said “Yes” to it,” explains Laine. Laine and Arturs have visited more than 80 countries in a total of five continents.
The project is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation.
