On 24 September at 11.00 in the Children’s Town and at 15.00 in the Children’s Park “Fantāzija”, families with children will have the opportunity to take part in Michaelmas traditions, play autumn games, guess riddles, enjoy pony rides and sing old folk songs together.
Michaelmas is a special time when people start to prepare for winter and have more time to enjoy family time together. Around this time, summer chores are finished, harvests are completed and preparations are made for the cold months.
Michaelmas rides will also be available with the kind-hearted pony Briga, the blue-eyed pony Cabuli and the horse Neo. The pony owner, Asnāte Šlisere, has been riding for 18 years and bought these ponies for the enjoyment of her daughter and other children.
The folklore studio “Vācelīte” operates at the Ventspils Creativity House, offering exciting and educational activities for children. This programme covers ancient seasonal customs and combines a cycle of eight lessons in which experienced teachers Ilga Porniece, Ineta Kalniņa and Sandra Gūtmane allow children to get to know Latvian folk traditions and understand them through games.
Admission is free is charge.
The event is organised by the Ventspils Culture Centre and supported by the Ventspils State City Municipality.
