From August 2nd to 4th, the 22nd International Flower Carpet Festival “Colorful Flower Games” will take place in Ventspils as part of the city’s festivities. Professional florists, aspiring industry specialists, and other floral enthusiasts from Latvia and abroad are invited to participate, with registration open until June 30th.
The International Flower Carpet Festival, renowned for over two decades as one of the most colorful and visually stunning events of the Ventspils City Festival, will this year gather participant teams and spectators in the Great Square next to the “Fregate ‘Valzivs'” fountain and the “Latvija” concert hall.
Traditionally, each year the flower carpet festival has a theme, which also serves as the creative task for the participating teams. This year, coinciding with the Paris Olympic Games, the festival’s theme is “Colorful Flower Games,” expressing support and solidarity with Olympic athletes from Latvia, Ventspils, and around the world.
All participants, regardless of the outcome, will receive a guaranteed monetary award of 400 EUR, free accommodation in Ventspils, and an invitation to the closing event of the Ventspils City Festival in Renķis Garden. The total prize fund for the winners is 1600 EUR.
According to the rules, each participating team must create one circular flower carpet with a diameter of 2.8 meters and a total area of 6 square meters within 23 hours, from 10:00 AM on August 2nd to 9:00 AM on August 3rd.
Registration for the 22nd International Flower Carpet Festival is open until June 30, 2024. The 22nd International Flower Carpet Festival is organized by the municipal utility company “Ventspils labiekārtošanas kombināts” with the support of the festival’s idea creators, master florists Riona Ēce and Aija Žagariņa of the “Florist School A-Ž.” The prize fund is provided by the Ventspils Cultural Center.
