This year, Ventspils Municipality will participate in Home Café Days for the first time. Everyone is welcome to visit the event locally known as Vien smeķīg dien Ventiņpusē, or a Café Day in the city and municipality of Ventspils, on August 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
During the said event – Vien smeķīg dien Ventiņpusē – 23 cafés will be waiting for guests who may visit them in different time to see how the cafés will stand out with something of their own – a rich offer for foodies, entertainment, or cultural adventures. For example, the guests will get a chance to listen to a concert, watch acting, shoot with a bow, become part of creative workshops and master classes. Ventspils Municipality has a unique cultural and historical heritage – Suits, Ventins and Livs – who will offer you to enjoy, get to know and fall in love with both modern and ancient flavours right in their home cafés.
Dace Kolāte, business support and tourism specialist of the Local Government of Ventspils Municipality, will coordinate the event both in the municipality and in the city too because residents of Ventspils also have positively responded to her appeal to set up a café in their homes for one day. Dace is delighted to have great response and interest: “I’m so glad to see that people are really enterprising. Only some of the persons participating in Vien smeķīg dien Ventiņpusē deal with the provision of catering services on a daily basis, while it is quite a new experience for the rest of the participants. Surely, everyone had the opportunity to participate in a training, where we talked about the hospitality industry, marketing, and food safety requirements too”.
Home Café Days is a special event in which improvised cafes open their doors for one or two days to visitors who are welcome to enjoy every region of Latvia through culinary offer, traditions and culture. The event is organised by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia and Latvian Country Tourism Association Lauku ceļotājs in cooperation with local regional coordinators and owners of home cafés.
