This year, during the City Festival from 4-6 August, the Ventspils Museum is offering you the chance to look into the wishing wells of all the Museum’s houses and draw joy from the Museum’s collections.
The festive meeting will start on 4 August at 11.30 11:30 at the Herberts Dorbe Museum (Ērgļu iela 1), where writer Laura Vinogradova will tell the younger audience about what a writer’s happiness consists of.
On Saturday, 5 August, at the House of Crafts (Skolas iela 3), from 10.00 to 15.00, you will be able to test your luck or fortune in a ticket scratch-off and get to know the artisans’ workshops in person.
On 5 August, the Wishing Well at the Livonian Order Castle (Jāņa iela 17) will be open from 12.00 – 18.00 and will feature games of fortune known from the Middle Ages, a fortune-teller at the chestnut tree and laundresses at the Castle’s fountain, knightly fighting techniques in shock-proof armour and medieval chants in two parts. At 13.00 in the Chapel of the Castle, nonsense will be praised – MUĻĶĪBAS SLAVINĀJUMS. FOLIJAS (PRAISE OF NONSENSE. FOLLIES) played by IEVA NĪMANE (flute and oboe), AINĀRS PAUKŠĒNS (viola da gamba), PĒTERIS VAICKOVSKIS (positive) and all explained by the narrator – VILIS DAUDZIŅŠ. MADRIGĀLI (MADRIGALS) or DZIESMAS MĀTES VALODĀ (SONGS IN THE MOTHER TONGUE), sung by the ancient music ensemble Modus Vivendi, will be performed in the Chapel at 15.00. The Museum is open 10:00-19:00.
The day will end with the fortunate evening rides on the locomotive Mazbānītis along the Circle Line (Seaside Open Air Museum, Riņķa iela 2), ), specially planned for the City Festival, 20.00-23.00.
On Sunday, 6 August, there will be a wishing well in every homestead at the Seaside Open Air Museum (Riņķa iela 2) from 12.00 – 17.00. On the Crafts Day, craftsmen and traders will be bustling around, demonstrating their crafts, there will be activities for children, mini Zoo animals will also be showing off their skills, and at 14.00 a concert programme with the band LAUKU MUZIKANTI will start.
