The International Symposium on Small Form Ceramics Navigation XIII is taking place at the Ventspils Museum House of Crafts from 9-19 October. The participants of the Ceramics Symposium work in the Potter’s Studio of the House of Crafts, the curator of the symposium is Jānis Kupčs, the symposium is supported by the State City of Ventspils, the State Culture Capital Foundation and the Culture Programme of the Kurzeme Planning Region. The Ceramics Symposium “Navigation” is taking place for the thirteenth time, only professional artists participate in the Symposium and traditionally also a student recommended by the Ceramics Department of the Art Academy of Latvia. This year the participants are Keite Melle (LV), Agnese Sunepa (LV), Viktória Maróti (HU) and Katarzyna Misciur (DN). According to the Symposium Regulations, one of the artworks created during the Symposium will be donated by the artists to the Art Collection of the Ventspils Museum. Ventspils Museum has a unique collection of contemporary ceramics, which currently includes more than 70 artworks by artists from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, France and Poland.
One of the Symposium’s participants is Viktória Maróti, a young Hungarian artist who has found her recognisable signature. (Viktória Maróti). Victoria graduated from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest (2018), named after the renowned Bauhaus School teacher andMoholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest, Hungarian multi-artist László Moholy-Nagy, and since graduation has participated in more than ten international symposia, and has received significant recognition and awards, including the1st Prize of the Young European Ceramists Competition (France, 2019) (Concours Jeune Céramique Européenne, Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie). Viktória Maróti works mainly in porcelain, creating spectacular, lace-like objects that fit into the destructive times of today.
