At 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at a gala event in Ventspils’ Adventure Park, the largest toboggan track in the Baltics was unveiled – Ventspils Rodel.
The opening moment of the route was marked with a show of colourful smoke jets and the new rodel was also attempted at the opening event by the chairman of Ventspils State City municipal Council, Janis Vitolins and his deputy on cooperation issues Gunta Blumbergs, as well as the builders and designers of the route. Visitors to the event were entertained by the musical band River of time and circus artists.
The total length of the toboggan track is 800 m, but the descent is more than half a kilometer, i.e. 580 m long. The toboggan can reach a maximum speed of 40 km/h, but at a height of about 25 meters above ground level, the toboggan track makes two 360-degree turns.
Adults also went on the rodel ride with their children because the sleigh is two-seater. They are equipped with a smart electronic braking system and electric brakes. The track will run throughout the year. Information about the new rodel can be found in the www.piedzivojumuparks.lv.
Service prices: for a child aged 3-7, a trip with an adult only – free, for young people aged 8-17, the price of one trip is €3, while for adults the price of one trip is €5.
The construction of the toboggan track in the Adventure Park on the slope of the ski hill “Lemberg hüte” was started on July 1, 2022.
Since the idea of creating a rodel on the slope of the ski mountain “Lemberga Hūte” had been cherished for several years, this was an investment project prepared by the municipal authority “Ventspils municipal Board” for the development of a new tourism service in Ventspils City, which was implemented with co-financing of the State budget in the amount of EUR 1.6 million.
